Sustainability

Nature is part of our surroundings

At Gualta, we understand sustainability not as a one-off action, but as a way of doing things. We are located in a privileged natural setting, within the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park, and this commits us to acting responsibly, respectfully and consistently in our day-to-day activities.

Our sports and leisure activities coexist with nature, and we work to ensure that this relationship is balanced, conscious and sustainable, both today and for future generations.

Environmental statement and commitment

At Pitch&Putt Gualta, we see sustainability as a genuine, everyday responsibility, not simply as a statement of intent. We are deeply committed to protecting the environment, conserving natural resources and safeguarding the health of the people who work, play and enjoy our surroundings.

Our long-term vision is clear and ambitious: to move towards an energy self-sufficient model, progressively reducing the use of fossil fuels until we can eliminate them completely and minimise our dependence on external energy networks.

Our main priority is to ensure that all our facilities, products and services strictly comply with current legislation and applicable international regulations, while implementing active prevention and continuous improvement measures to protect the environment and human health.

We set short-, medium- and long-term environmental goals, monitor them and evaluate the results with the aim of:

  • Reducing pollution caused by wastewater.

  • Minimising the impact of atmospheric emissions.

  • Continuously reducing waste generation.

  • Optimising the use of energy and water.

We firmly believe that transparency is essential. For this reason, we provide all stakeholders with clear information about our environmental performance and the goals we have achieved.

This commitment not only defines the way we work, but also aims to serve as a source of inspiration for the entire sector, encouraging a new culture that is more respectful of the land, the landscape and natural resources.

Environmental impact in figures

Key figures of our environmental commitment

  • 13,160 kg of CO₂ avoided annually thanks to the use of 100% certified renewable energy.
  • 108,764 kWh of renewable energy consumed during the last year.
  • 50 kWp of our own photovoltaic energy, covering approximately 1/3 of the facilities’ total energy consumption.
  • Up to 70% less water consumption thanks to the progressive replacement of traditional turf with new-generation varieties adapted to the Mediterranean climate.
  • 90% use of chemical products over the last 10 years thanks to biological and mechanical pest control.
  • 100% of waste separated and recycled within the facilities.

Estas cifras son el resultado de una estrategia sostenida en el tiempo, basada en decisiones técnicas, inversiones responsables y una visión clara de futuro.

The course: biodiversity, nature and responsible environmental management

The Pitch&Putt Gualta course is a sports space integrated into the landscape, designed without any form of urban development speculation or associated real-estate projects.

A living natural refuge

  • The course design preserves a central area of untouched woodland, which acts as a refuge for wildlife and plant life.
  • The lakes along the course play a key ecological role as habitats and resting areas for birds.
  • Species including red squirrels, hedgehogs, badgers, genets, sparrowhawks, gallarancs and numerous resident and migratory birds have been identified.

Responsible vegetation management

  • All new planting prioritises native species that are adapted to the climate and require less water.
  • Traditional turf is gradually being replaced by new-generation grass varieties selected from local species, which:
         –  Use up to 70% less water.
         – Are more resistant to drought.
         – Require less mowing.
         – Have greater resistance to disease, reducing the use of plant protection products.

(We accept their only aesthetic drawback: in winter they take on a more yellowish tone.)

Protection and ecological balance

  • The course has dozens of nesting boxes for birds and bats, providing a natural and effective solution for controlling insect pests.
  • Fertilisation is based mainly on organic and foliar fertilisers, helping to prevent contamination of aquifers.
  • Pest control prioritises biological and mechanical methods, resulting in a 90% reduction in chemical products over the last 10 years.
  • The course’s water reserves are adapted so they can be used by emergency services in the event of a forest fire.

Renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable innovation

Energy management at Pitch&Putt Gualta is based on a mixed model combining our own production, efficiency and certified green energy.

100% certified renewable energy

As every year since the beginning of our activity, the electricity used at Pitch&Putt Gualta is certified as 100% renewable in accordance with the official energy labelling of Spain’s National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC).

This certification, issued by Som Energia, guarantees that 100% of the electricity consumed comes from renewable energy sources.

During the last year:

  • Energy consumption: 108,764 kWh

  • CO₂ emissions avoided: 13,160 kg

  • Radioactive waste avoided: 55,687 mg

Responsible lighting

  • Absolute priority given to LED technology and high-efficiency systems.

  • Stand-alone solar lights installed at different points throughout the facilities.

  • Outdoor lighting designed to prevent any light pollution (no light fixture projects light above the horizon).

  • Extensive use of smart automation and motion sensors: lights are only switched on when they are genuinely needed.

Waste management, digitalisation and the circular economy

La reducción de residuos en Pitch&Putt Gualta no pasa únicamente por el reciclaje, sino también por la digitalización de los procesos.

  • Separación selectiva de todos los residuos generados en el campo y en las instalaciones.

Virtual Card: less paper, greater efficiency

The introduction of the Virtual Card is a clear commitment to digitalisation and reducing paper consumption, especially in sports competitions.

Currently:

  • 83% of scorecard use in competitions is already digital.
  • 74% of players regularly use the virtual card.
  • More than 637 virtual cards generated to date.

Efficient water management

  • Smart irrigation system that operates only when and where necessary.

  • Automatic shutdown in the event of rain.

  • Water consumption lower than when this land was used for agriculture.

  • Monthly monitoring of water consumption to detect possible leaks.

  • Potential reuse of wastewater for irrigation, always subject to environmental safety criteria.

  • Regular analysis of groundwater.

  • Reuse of treated domestic wastewater.

  • Collection and storage of all rainwater from the roofs.

Technology supporting water savings

  • Weather station that calculates daily evapotranspiration.

  • Moisture sensors at and below root level to prevent water and nutrient loss.

  • Exclusive use of biodegradable cleaning products.

Responsible management, sustainable suppliers and social commitment

  • Suppliers selected according to social and environmental criteria.

  • Priority given to reusable or recyclable packaging in the restaurant and café.

  • Transparent information on the drinks menu about the type of packaging, allowing customers to make informed choices.

  • Participation in programmes that encourage diners to take home leftover food.

Shared sustainability: a commitment to the local area, our players and the future

Sustainability at Pitch&Putt Gualta is not a promise; it is a daily practice. Every decision we make aims to reduce our environmental impact, protect the landscape of the Baix Empordà and offer a sporting experience that reflects the values of both the present and the future.
